Young Miners progress in FA Youth Cup...

Goals from Reece Buckle, Tom Taylor and a wonder strike from Chris Manning secured Garforth's passage in the FA Youth Cup in a fast-paced and entertaining cup tie.

For much of the first half the visitors had most of the chances and will rue not taking a least a couple of them. In the ninth minute they did find the net, through Ben Clarkson's header but the 'goal' was chalked off for offside.

On 15 mins against the run of play, Joe Etherington's free-kick from deep was headed home by Reece Buckle to put Town ahead.

A goalmouth scramble on the half-hour almost ended in an equalizer after Nathan Storton struck the crossbar, but goalkeeper Matt Anderson-Corman was there to block Clarkson's shot on the line. Some more committed defending denied Kyun Ellison a couple of minutes later after skipping past defenders on the byeline.

Despite all this it could've been 2-0 when a counter attack saw Chris Manning race clear of the defence with only keeper Cameron Webster to beat, but the stopper was quick off his line and made the save to keep his team in the tie.

The chances continued down the other end towards the end of the half but the Cobbydalers couldn't find the finish. Josh Gott was unlucky to see his diving header just clear the bar, and then another header, from Cameron Allen was blocked on the line.

Five minutes into the second period there were appeals for a penalty when Taylor went down under challenge from Allen but the referee waved play on. Two minutes later though Garforth put themselves two-up from an unlikely position. And it was one to remember for defender Manning who's free kick from 40 yards sailed into the top corner, to the delight of the home crowd. On 66 mins Taylor thought he'd grabbed his second of the game when finding the net with an excellent finish, but like his opposite number in the first half was ruled offside.

Two minutes later Silsden captain Aiden Smith was unlucky to hit the post with a 20-yard strike, and his side's frustrations continued moments later when Taylor put us 3-0 ahead after beating his man and firing past Webster.

Despite the scoreline, the visitors showed spirit to reduce the arrears twice, although ultimately leaving it too late to force extra time. Two minutes later from a break forward Gott flicked the ball over Webster to bring it back to 3-1. Three minutes from time Anderson-Corman made an excellent save to tip over a good effort from Ellison, and then in the last kick of the game Smith's corner kick was chested into the net by Storton for 3-2.

An encouraging start by Nick Fletcher's side who start their league campaign next Wednesday at Goole AFC.
