In truth it was dominant display by the Minstermen, who also missed a penalty and hit the woodwork three times. After just three minutes they were ahead when Sam Fielding found the top corner with a 25-yard screamer. Two minutes later Josh Rogerson headed wide a Fielding corner kick. Town's first chance came on seven mins when Ashley Wealthall's low effort was claimed by home keeper Joe Wilton.

The action soon reverted to the other end of the field though as Garforth struggled to settle against their full-time opponents. Matt Anderson-Codman blocked on the line from Flynn McNaughton after a goalmouth scramble, but on 13 mins it was 2-0 when Noah Jackson's delivery was headed in at the back post by Alex Brutton. Anderson-Codman made a great save to turn wide Aaron Haswell's low drive on 21 mins, then four minutes later denied Haswell again when saving at his feet, but the referee blew up for a foul during the build-up. From the resulting free-kick the keeper prevented a second goal from Fielding, turning a good strike round the post. The chances continued for the home side, some of which they'll be disappointed not to have taken, but McNaughton was unlucky on 31 mins when his 20-yard strike rebounded off the post.

A rare chance for the Miners arrived on 35 mins after pacey striker Tom Taylor did well to win the ball off a defender and deliver the ball at pace to a well-placed Adam Atkinson but it was a difficult take and he volleyed over the crossbar. Two minutes later the hosts scored an excellent third when Tyler Walton skipped through challenges to fire across Anderson-Codman into the far corner.

A minute into the second period McNaughton found the woodwork again when his rasping shot rattled the underside of the crossbar, and on 58 mins he broke clear and chipped Anderson-Codman but defender Saul Adshead managed to clear off the line. The next 15 mins or so saw respite for a harried Town defence, but the hosts stepped up again soon after as we started to tire. On 69 mins Haswell stung the palms of Anderson-Codman after another quick break, but sadly he couldn't keep out substitute Reece Breslin's powerful low drive to make it 4-0 on 76 mins. In the space of a minute it was five when another sub, Josh Berry, tucked away Brutton's cross from the right. The Garforth defence had struggled to handle the pace of Brutton all evening, and ten mins from time he earned a penalty for his side when he was taken down in the box by Chris Manning. Brutton stepped up himself to take the spot kick, but like McNaughton before him could only rattle the underside of the crossbar. Despite this Steve Torpey's side still weren't finished and the sixth and final goal arrived on 83 mins when Reece Breslin grabbed his second of the evening, slotting home at close range another cross from Brutton. Despite picking the ball out of his net six times, Anderson-Codman can be proud of his display between the sticks, and there was one more save for him to make when he made a good stop to deny Brutton on 86 mins.
