Garforth Town Man of Match - Lee Coulthard (shown pictured)
Not a great deal in this game so there was a sense of almost disbelief that the boys had managed to lose 8-0! The game went in 3 main stages as follows:
Stage 1 - first 40 minutes - a tight affair with Garforth looking after the ball well but RIASA hitting them in transition with quick counters. RIASA have had 4 chances to Garforth's 2. On 40 minutes a quick throw from their keeper unleashed a player down the left. He played a curled ball from the half way onto the edge of the Garforth box in behind our slightly out of position centre half - our keeper made the decision to come but got there a fraction late - 1-0 to RIASA.
Stage 2 - 40 to 65 minutes. RIASA GO 2-0 up almost from the restart of the second half. The RIASA number 8 is left unmarked at a throw to them on the half line. He receives the ball, turns and plays in a cute ball behind the Garforth right back. The RIASA third man running takes to the bye line, squares it back across the goal, the centre forward drags in 2 defenders but lets the ball run across him and a supporting runner from deep tucks it into the corner of the net. A well worked goal but it should have been stopped at source. A minute later Garforth almost get a goal back. Raul Fletcher does superbly well to beat 4 players and get to the bye line but inexplicably, much to his own frustration, fails to get the ball to the unmarked Jack Alton. Garforth then have another great chance to pull one back when Evans fed Coulthard with a 1 touch set and Coulthard played in Louis Bruce behind with a 1 touch pass. Bruce choose the far post shot when the near post looked the better option and the shot was deflected wide. The game breaker came on 65 minutes when RIASA got in on the near post when the Garforth defenders pulled up expecting the offside decision.
Stage 3 - 65 - 90 minutes - the controversial goal rattled the Garforth boys and they seemed to lose their focus a trifle. The last 25 minutes went to a pattern with Garforth taking the game to RIASA but getting punished on the counter attack. RIASA had about 7 chances during this period with 5 going in.
