A copy and paste tagline exercise for me for this is the second league game running that the Development Team have substantially outplayed the opposition but come away with no points. The first half, played out on the tight 3g pitch at Leeds Beckett University, was a tense affair with very few chances created. Riasa took the lead on 12 minutes when the ball was well worked to the Garforth bye line where the Riasa left winger, under pressure from Garforth full back Dickinson, hooked the ball high into an area and it fell kindly for the Riasa forward who headed it in from 5 yards. On 15 minutes a long range Coulthard shot was followed in by Fletcher. As he was about to score the Riasa keeper pulled him back. Yellow card to the keeper..penalty to Garforth. Alton smashes it against the crossbar.. Atkinson tries to force home the ball from the rebound but puts his shot wide. Riasa almost score a second on 42 minutes when Garforth centre half Diggle, who otherwise had an excellent game, was too casual in possession and had his attempted pass closed down. Half time score line Riasa 1 (from 2 chances), Garforth 0 (2 chances). Garforth changed their shape at half time to 4-4-2.. and completely dominated the second half spending long periods camped inside the Riasa half. Riasa only had 2 good chances in the second half - having watched the video of the match I would say that one of those - a ball over the top - was offside. The other chance led to the second goal. The ref blew up for a foul some 30 yards from the Garforth goal - a Riasa player went down off the ball - looked innocuous to me - a case of 2 players colliding as they followed play. The ball was swung into the Garforth penalty area .... a Riasa player looped up a header into the Garforth 6 yard box...the Garforth keeper spills the catch.. big scramble.. ball forced home. OOPS A DAISY! Meanwhile Garforth, playing mostly their normal 'ticki -tacka' pass and move brand of football, created 10 good second half chances and will be disappointed with themselves no doubt that they only managed to convert 1. Ironically their goal, scored in the 80th minute came from a 'route 1' approach when striker Hartley got on the end of a big kick from Garforth keeper Booth.
Overall statistics approx as follows:
Possession: Garforth Town 60-65%
Good goal scoring chances: Garforth Town 12 Riasa 4.
