The Garforth Town youngsters uncharacteristically produced a lackadaisical performance against a competent Campion eleven but still managed to grind out a point which means that the boys have picked up 4 points in the last 3 matches to suggest that considering no points were gleaned in the first 4 matches of the season positive progress is being made. Most of the Garforth boys played as though they had drunk, just before the start of the match, a pint of the bedtime drink my great Aunt Gladys is given in the care home she resides in! Thankfully Elias Larsen, Mat 'Bobby Moore' Devlin, Ashley Wealthall and the excellent man of the match keeper Brad Williams played somewhere near to their potential for without their significant contributions Garforth would surely have surrendered all 3 points. Campion were excellent in transition punishing any Garforth loose passes or touches with swift counter attacks and it soon become apparent that Garforth were safer, for the most part, out of possession than in possession of the ball. The visitors produced 6 or 7 clear cut chances in the first half all derived from counter attacks and the Garforth youngsters must have been relieved to be only 1 goal down at half time. Campion's goal came on 15 minutes when a Garforth attack broke down in the opponent's defensive third and a Campion overload resulted in the ball being smashed into the roof of the Garforth Town net from 8 yards out. Garforth played with more care in the second half but were still subjected to a couple of scares before equalising in the 65th minute when a Chris Manning diagonal ball intended for the far post deflected off the closing down defender to the near post area. Harry Croft was first to react to the changed direction of the ball and looped a header into the 6 yard box which the 'gambling' Joe Etherington tapped into the net. The final 20 minutes of the game was mostly an even affair excepting that Campion were given one final 'fling of the dice' in the 86th minute when the referee awarded them a penalty as a result of their centre forward going down under the challenge of Garforth keeper Williams. The score remained at 1-1 as the Campion penalty taker smashed the ball just over the home side's crossbar.
