Garforth Town Man of Match - Raul Fletcher
Just as soon as the Garforth boys realised that captain Lee Coulthard had lost the toss they knew they were in trouble - the sun was low in the sky and shining directly into the eyes of the Garforth players in the first half. Cue 11 players struggling to see and cue on 720 seconds Harrogate scoring their second goal of the match to ensure that the game as a winnable contest for Garforth had already virtually gone. Strangely much of the Garforth Town play was good - they controlled somewhere in the region of 60% of play - but other vital aspects were poor most especially dealing with simple balls in behind (cost 2 goals) and losing the ball in possession when unopposed (cost 4 goals). Add to this the fact that Harrogate's finishing was clinical and that Garforth played with only one specialist centre half and one can start to understand just why Garforth managed to manufacture such a shocking result. Garforth can draw some solace from the fact that they scored the best goal of the game. Raul Fletcher collected the ball in a central position some 20 yards into his own half. He exchanged a one two with Sam Wilson then played a first time ball to wide man Tommy Reynolds. Raul followed his pass and collected the set from Tommy. He then beat his man out wide, drove in towards the box and played a pass into the feet of Gabriel Bradley. Gabriel backed heeled the ball into the box, Raul followed his pass, collected the return, feigned to shoot, beat the centre half and tucked it past the keeper. Quality - into the goal from 70 yards in 20 seconds without a Harrogate Town player touching the ball!
