Strange goal clinches 3 points for Riasa East after good contest.

Another good performance from a Garforth Town Development Team crammed with youngsters but one left the venue after the match wondering if somebody in the Garforth set-up has walked under a ladder this season for this for the fourth game on the trot (all away as it happens) that the Garforth boys have played well enough to take points from a game but come away with none! This was a good, tight contest characterized by 4 well worked goals, two for each side, and a third goal, and winner, for the home side which presumably will be filed somewhere under the letter 'S' - (S for 'strange goals'). Garforth edged the first half and Riasa edged the second half and overall a draw would probably have been a fair result. Riasa opened the scoring after about 15 minutes when Garforth lost possession deep in the Riasa half. The ball was quickly dispatched behind Garforth centre half Mat Devlin, and carried in textbook fashion by the Riasa player for some 30 yards before being cut back across the Garforth six yard box to the far post for a tap in. The Garforth boys equalized some 10 minutes when Raul Fletcher caught his opponent in possession in the Riasa final third. His short diagonal pass to Lee Coulthard took three Riasa opponents out of the equation. Lee delivered a nicely weighted diagonal cross to the far post where 16 year old Garforth striker Wesley Gibrill-Keating, who had a very good game, squeezed the ball with his header between the near post and the keeper. Riasa took the lead within 2 minutes of the second half . Again it came from Garforth losing possession in the Riasa half and again Riasa quickly got in behind the Garforth centre halves. The Riasa player was forced wide as Garforth keeper Dan Booth raced out to narrow the angle but he produced a fabulous finish from a very tight angle depite the fact there were 3 or 4 Garforth players in the box trying to block the shot. Again Garforth equalized when the Garforth Town man of the match Raul Fletcher picked out 16 year old Garforth striker Seth Hartley on the edge of the Riasa penalty area from a corner. Seth caught the ball sweetly on the volley and it went through a number of defenders and the goal keeper. Riasa took the lead again on about 70 minutes with a bit of a strange goal. The Riasa keeper pumped the ball out of his hands long and high. It took a wicked bounce off the 3g surface and straight over the stranded 16 year old Garforth keeper, who also had a good game, Dan Booth. Although the Riasa centre forward did what he is paid to do, that is follow the ball in and head it into the empty net from a yard out, the finish was a little academic in that the ball was going in anyway. Garforth had a late rally in the last 10 minutes and came close to snatching an equalizer on 3 occasions but it wasn't meant to be on this occasion I'm afraid.
