Three second half goals from our clinical neighbours condemned The Miners to another friendly loss. Whilst the scoreline was a tad harsh on Rob Hunter's side who created plenty of chances of their own, the defeat against the Division 1 promotion-chasers will have given him and his backroom staff a few things to chew over.

In a lively first half, Town's stand-in goalkeeper Darren Hooper did well to save Glasshoughton number 6's drive from just outside the box just two mins in. An eighth minute delivery to Curtly Martin-Wyatt almost saw the striker nick the ball off the Welfare keeper, but he managed to keep him out. He was almost in again after great work by Shaquille Clark-Adams, but his forward pass was just ahead of him. Town were almost caught cold seconds later down the other end when Andrew Horbury poked the ball past an onrushing Hooper and shaved the outside of the post.

Clark-Adams's mazy run through the box on 20 mins deserved a goal, but his low strike was saved at the near post. The triallist was in again on the half-hour mark after making a foray from wide, but chipped onto the roof of the net.

Both sides were guilty of missing sitters just after the restart. A great ball across the six-yard box from Aodhan Brownlee ended in Clark-Adams skying over the bar from close range, before Glasshoughton 10's header down from a quick Welfare break put clear number 11 with only Hooper to beat, but couldn't get enough on the ball allowing the keeper to clear.

The visitors were ahead on 54 mins however when Hooper punched into his own net number 2's free-kick, possibly via the head of James Dyson (accounts vary). The second came courtesy of another free-kick on 62 mins and, sadly, another Hooper error; the keeper flapping at Glasshoughton 8's delivery, allowing Dyson to head home.

The introduction of sub Devonte Morton restored Town's threat on goal, but the finish was still lacking. Morton shot just wide of the post on 66 mins, before fellow sub Mark Ferguson was put through three minutes later but his strike was straight at the Welfare keeper. New signing Jonathan Andrew was unfortunate on 74 mins when a challenge on the touchline saw him have to be carried off with an ankle injury. Secinds later an excellent one-two between Ferguson and Morton ended in the latter only able to find the keeper. There was still time for a third from our neighbours on 82 mins however when a flowing move was finished off by number 14 drawing Hooper, then squaring to an unmarked Jamie Simpson to tap in.

Our final pre-season friendly is next Tuesday when we make the short journey to Nostell Miners Welfare (kick-off 7:45pm).
