An Albert Ibrahimi hattrick and a goal from Niah Payne sealed a first FA Cup victory for four years, and a best result against a Northern League opponent for many a year.

The Miners delivered a lesson in finishing to the hosts who, it should be said, enjoyed good chances of their own but couldn't take them.

The first chance on goal fell to Northallerton's Nicholas Martin on 9 mins who's low shot was held by Toby Wells. A minute later Shaquille Clarke-Adams came close, intentionally or otherwise, when his cross-cum-shot from the left clipped the top of the crossbar. On 15 minutes it was the host's turn to rattle the woodwork when they won a free-kick just outside the box. Jim Wilson stepped up to take and saw his well-struck effort hit the bar. A Kerry Wilson strike was held by Wells on 23 mins after the ball was given away in our own half, before Alex Low had a low shot claimed by captain Tom Dawson in the Northallerton goal when a free-kick was headed down by Daniel Omosebi. Clarke-Adams was in on the chances again on 27 mins when his deflected drive was well saved by Dawson, and moments later Devonte Morton's towering header from Clarke-Adams' delivery was just off-target.

A couple of Wilson free-kicks caused problems for The Miners around the 35-minute mark; Daniel Jones heading wide at the back post from the first, then the second resulting in a goalmouth scramble before Chris Howard finally cleared the danger. We were soon down the other end though when Dawson kept out of the bottom corner a bobbling effort from Clarke-Adams after a foray in from the right.

The chance of the game so far arguably fell to Northallerton's Wilson on 41 mins when played through by Stephen Jackson with only Wells to beat, but he could only fire wide. It was a let off for Town they didn't need reminding of, as only three minutes later, we took the lead. Kieran Holmes found Albert Ibrahimi on the edge of the box who shrugged off his man and planted the ball across Dawson into the bottom corner of the net. Back down the other end, Wells ensured a half time lead when he did well to turn around the far post a Dale Elgie strike.

A quiet start to the second half was livened up on 57 mins when Clarke-Adams supplied Ibrahimi 20 yards from goal to score his second of the game with a pinpoint strike in off the post. Five minutes later Martin's glancing header from substitute Shaun Hudson's cross went just wide, before Niah Payne's curling effort down the other end went just over the bar. On 65 mins it was 3-0 and a sublime hat-trick for Ibrahimi when Morton did well to hold the ball up and play him through to slot the ball through Dawson and into the net.

To their credit, the hosts never gave up and were still creating chances in the final ten minutes. Substitute Andrew Shepherd headed over the bar Hudson's delivery on 85 mins, then moments later a loose ball from Walker's cross found Wilson in space who could only fire over the bar. Wells once again showed a safe pair of hands when claiming under an attacker's nose a dangerous ball in from Hudson.

The Miners weren't finished however, and added a fourth on 90 mins when Niah Payne made a mazy run into the box and slotted through the legs of Dawson. Along with teammate Ibrahimi, not a bad way to open your account for the club!

A revenge match at Bridlington Town on 25th August awaits Rob Hunter's team in the next round. This replaces the home game against Hall Road Rangers which has been moved back seven days to Saturday 1st September, previously a free date. Meanwhile our first home game of the season is on Tuesday when we host Liversedge (kick-off 7:45pm).
