The opening few minutes saw the visitors quickest off the blocks, and if it wasn't for a sublime save from Toby Wells things could've turned out differently. Getting on the end of a right-wing cross, TJ Ibrahim looked certain to have given the Sheepicorns the lead, but Wells somehow managed to get down and push his header wide. The let-off stirred the Miners into action, with a front three of Tabish Hussain, Sam Barker and Matt Antcliff (and along with Duke Witter, at times a front-four) giving Ossett a torrid time with their pace and movement, and a solid defence restricted them to a couple of half-chances.

On 8 mins we had the lead when visiting 'keeper Joe Green's poor kick-out went straight to Antcliff who fired home for a ninth goal in six pre-season games.

There was a chance for an Ossett equalizer soon after when Charlie Reaney was played in by Ibrahim on the edge of the box, but his low strike was straight at Wells. The action soon resumed down the other end though when Antcliff was supplied by Barker for his second, but he too shot straight at the 'keeper. Antcliff had a part in our second on 18 mins; earning us a penalty when felled in the area. Up stepped captain Dan Coupland to send Green the wrong way and double our lead.

Barker was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet on 28 mins when his shot came off the crossbar, before a Hussain effort was deflected wide after a good move down the right wing. Town capitalised on another 'keeper error on 34 mins to make it 3-0. Green was a tad unfortunate after making a stop on the edge of the box, but his clearance went straight to Antcliff who found Barker to chip over him and make it seven goals in six pre-season games.

Antcliff was again denied a second when his rising strike was tipped over the bar by Green, before Hussain had another sight of goal when played in by Witter, but couldn't keep his shot away from Green.

A quieter second half saw fewer chances for both sides, with our lead allowing for six substitutes to be introduced on the hour-mark to get some minutes in before the impending start to the season proper. Despite the visitors introducing prolific ex-Town striker David Brown, those that did come about fell mostly to Garforth. Barker headed wide on 52 mins after being picked out by Antcliff's delivery, then the same man shot well wide from a good position after Hussain burst forward down the right. A superb cross from sub Sam Leach sadly wasn't finished off when Antcliff headed over at the far post, then Barker brought a good save from Green after Antcliff beat the offside trap. After a brilliant run by Barker on 78 mins, another searching delivery from Leach went flashing across the face of goal, but with nobody on hand to tap in.

Town had been well-worth a fourth goal, but 3-0 was how it finished to cap off an impressive pre-season campaign. The league season starts in earnest this Saturday when Hallam are the visitors to the Bannister Prentice Stadium (kick-off 3pm).
