The first half was pretty even with both sides looking to attack. Garforth looked for quick breaks forward whilst Tadcaster employed a patient passing game with ex-Garforth striker David Brown the biggest threat. Fellow ex-Town players Liam Ormsby and Tom Claisse also featured for his team.
Only a minute into the game Brown shot past the far post after the ball was given away by Ashley Preece. Down at the opposite end a brilliant chance fell to Mark Simpson who was put through by Sam Jones to find himself one on one with Tad keeper Peter Lawrie but shot just wide. A free kick in the centre of park on 11 mins saw Luke Mangham volley wide after spotting Lawrie away from his goal.
Striker Nick Black was also looking useful and a good run into the box on 14 mins saw his shot flash over the crossbar. On 25 mins Dennie Ingram came close from a corner with a free header going just over. Two mins later however Garforth were ahead. Amid defenders' appeals for offside Black raced onto Jones' through ball to fire across Lawrie into the far corner for his 20th Town goal.
Tawanda Rupere almost made it 2-0 on 32 mins, testing Lawrie from 25 yards. Three minutes later though Brown equalised for the Brewers, breaking clear and deftly chipping Hunter from the edge of the box, which as observed elsewhere takes some doing!
Either side could've made it 2-1 in the final minutes of an entertaining half. Mangham volleyed over Jones' delivery on 42 mins and shortly after Hunter did well to save a rasping effort from Ormsby.
The second half was a more scrappy affair, Town were affected by the forced withdrawal of Mangham (replaced by Tim Robertson) and looked to contain the visitors.
The first big chance didn't come until 62 mins, and Albion will be wondering how the ball didn't go in. I may not have had the best view; Lewis Clarkson's curling shot struck the woodwork and looked to have hit the back of Hunter before being scrambled off the line.
On 69 mins Robertson tried a low shot from 30 yards which Lawrie dealt with easily and four mins later at the other end Paddy Miller headed over the bar Claisse's ball in from out wide. Most of the chances were falling to Tadcaster with the Miners struggling to mount any serious pressure. On 74 mins a quickly taken free kick ended in Brown firing past the far post from a narrow angle. Two mins later a rare Town foray saw Jassim Alali shoot over the bar from 25 yards from a defensive clearance after sub Andy Hawksworth couldn't connect with Rupere's cross.
A glorious chance came the visitors' way on 79 mins when Miller's delivery into the six-yard box saw Clarkson head wide. A goal was coming and it duly arrived on 85 mins when Hunter's punch from a corner fell to the feet of sub Danny Gray who smashed the ball through the crowd into the bottom corner.
A couple of Garforth corners in the final minutes gave a good chance for a late equaliser. In the second Hunter came up and joined the crowd of players but it was Preece who got on the end of it, sadly heading just wide.
A brave and organised effort from Graham Nicholas' side but sadly not enough to deny the title-chasers from what records show is their first ever season double over the Miners.
