Manager Paul Marshall named an unchanged side to that which starred in the fine win at Frickley last Friday.
Garforth enjoyed the early possession, with Nash Connolly having a 25-yard strike blocked in the area, but found themselves behind within just two minutes as Thackley scored on their first attack. Harry Flatters denied ex-Town striker Tom Greaves from Daniel Claridge's cross, but the ball found Ben Bodle who smashed home at the far post.
In a pretty even first half, Town struggled at times to produce the flowing football seen in our last two games, but did have their chances, as did the hosts. Tabish Hussain almost grabbed a quick equaliser with a curling strike which went just beyond the far post. There was a let-off on nine minutes when an unmarked Claridge headed over the bar Mark Everingham's delivery, before Dennyboys keeper Luke Wilson made a good stop to tip over Hussain's powerful strike after Connolly's shot was blocked. Flatters did well to palm away from goal Everingham's cross-cum-shot on 15 mins, then Sam Barker shot straight at Wilson after Connolly and Jordan Emery combined well down the left. Some more good play on 39 mins ended in Barker being denied by some more stout defending in the six-yard box. As the half drew to a close Wilson was almost embarrassed when dropping Alex Zachariou's delivery but nearby Town attackers couldn't take advantage and he claimed at the second attempt.
In what could be described as a 'half of two halves', Garforth started the second period well. Connolly's searching delivery had to be headed over the crossbar by a Thackley defender, then a strong run by Rinor Ejupi forced the corner kick which would produce our equaliser. Connolly's resulting ball-in was only half-cleared to an awaiting Barker who hit low into the net through a sea of players. A Dexter Ball 25-yarder was deflected just wide after Emery's shot was kept out by Wilson, then moments later another long range effort from the midfielder was likewise deflected off-target. A number of substitutions for both sides seemed to alter the flow of the game, and with Town unable to turn the tables, Thackley sought to retake the lead. Flatters palmed clear a left wing delivery under the nose of an awaiting attacker, then did well to turn wide Lewis Morgan's long-range strike. He made another cracking save to keep out substitute Finn Donovan's low effort after fellow sub Alex King burst into the area, but there was heartbreak five minutes from time as the two combined once again for Donovan to head in at the back post for Thackley's winner.
There was once chance in injury time as Town found themselves having to do it all again in the little time left; sub Matt Antcliff doing brilliantly to supply fellow sub Lee Turner, but his shot was blocked in the six-yard box as the hosts held on. After two victories, The Miners have to pick themselves up from defeat again, but don't have too long to dwell on this one as we return to the Bannister Prentice Stadium this Friday when Campion are the visitors (kick-off 7:45pm).
