Manager Paul Marshall was able to name an unchanged first eleven to that which defeated Frickley a week earlier. There was also a boost in the form of midfielder Nash Connolly returning to the squad after illness who was named a substitute.
It was to be a frustrating afternoon for The Miners and most of the bumper crowd of 429, as we struggled to produce the quality to force open a resolute Dennyboys defence. Town enjoyed the better of the early chances early on, although in what was to become a theme of the afternoon, without testing Luke Wilson in the Thackley goal. Jay Davis fired just wide on 7 mins when Charlie Marshall played across to him on the edge of the box from Jordan Emery's throw-in. Sam Barker's turn and shot went just off-target after Dan Coupland's run to the edge of the box, then a Davis snapshot from 25 yards went the wrong side of the far post when a Dexter Ball free-kick was half cleared.
The visitors responded by taking the lead themselves on 33 mins. The ball was played through the Town defence for Finn Donovan to work down the left and tee up Kieran Suddards to fire into the roof of the net.
Two minutes later there was a chance for Jamie Barkway to mark his 100th appearance for the club with a goal, but his header from Emery's long throw was straight at Wilson. On 35 mins Corey Billy looked to be in trouble after looking to have elbowed Barker when going up for a header, but escaped with a yellow card. A late challenge by Barkway then led to handbags in the middle of the park; when all was settled, bookings were produced for both Barkway and former Town midfielder Joe Mitchell.
In a good spell for Thackley just before the break, Harry Flatters claimed a turn and shot from another ex-Garforth man in Tom Greaves, then denied Donovan's 20-yard free kick.
Two minutes after the interval, The Miners were kept out by a Wilson double-save, firstly from Matt Antcliff's low shot and then from Emery on the rebound. Straight down the other end Ben Ellison-Tope blazed over the bar after Town couldn't clear their lines. Great work from Ball sadly wasn't finished off on 55 mins when Antcliff put a low shot wide of the far post. Rinor Ejupi then kept us in the game by clearing off the line Billy's header from a corner kick.
Connolly, Zachariou and Jeff were all introduced in quick succession as Garforth sought some late inspiration. Barker and Coupland both saw shots blocked off the line before Marshall hit wide. A 90th min free kick in a promising position handed a chance to Connolly, but his low effort was just wide of the near post. Amid six minutes of injury time a foray in from the left looked certain to see Suddards in with a chance for his second of the game to wrap things up, but a crucial block from Jeff stopped him getting a shot away. In the end a second wasn't needed as Town drew a blank for only the third time this season and the visitors were able to celebrate a third straight victory on Cedar Ridge in a big boost to their own promotion bid.
Garforth's on the other hand, looks to be faltering at the minute after not making home advantage pay in the last few weeks. We find ourselves 7th in the table and two points adrift of the play-off places, although still with games in hand on most of our rivals. Another difficult contest follows next Friday, when we visit top-of-the-table Campion, where no less than a repeat of the barnstorming 4-2 home win back in September will be needed if we're to bring anything back (kick-off 7:45pm).
