Shaquille Clark-Adams was on target again, but The Miners sunk to their fifth defeat in six games as The Seasiders completed the league double.

Bridlington were quickest out of the traps and will have been disappointed not to have given themselves an early lead. Toby Wells tipped over the bar Nathan Modest’s strike after being picked out by Chris Adams, then Jake Day blazed over the bar at close range from Joe McFadyen’s cross.

After that point, Garforth came into the game and started to create chances of their own. On 13 mins Shaquille Clarke-Adams put a shot just wide after good play by Devonte Morton and Mark Simpson. A minute later we were ahead courtesy of a third “Shaq” goal in two games; the midfielder heading Morton’s cross into the bottom corner of the net. Sadly, the visitors were handed a glorious chance to equalise only a minute later when Town were penalised for a shirt pull in the box. Day stepped up and converted the resultant penalty, just beyond the reach of Wells.

On 18 mins Brid keeper Tom Jackson was forced to divert for a corner Mark Ferguson’s deep delivery to the far post with Simpson ready to pounce. Down the other end there was another good chance for Day when he received the ball in space just outside the box, but his low drive went just past the far post.

There was a blow for Rob Hunter’s team on 32 mins when captain James Beaston was forced off with a hamstring injury, Billy Lumsden replacing him and Alex Low donning the captain’s armband. Clarke-Adams was in on the chances again three minutes from the break, his foray in from the right ending in a low shot finding the side netting. Wells was forced into another stop in injury time, denying Day at a narrow angle after some intricate play.

After putting in a good shift before the break, it was a disappointing second half performance for Town who struggled to get their passing game going, with too many individuals fading out of the game.

Day put a low shot just wide on 50 mins after a move through the middle. There was almost a chance for Simpson when Morton did well to win the ball and provide the ball through, but it was just in front of the striker, allowing Jackson to come out and claim. The visitors had started the half the better side though and it was no surprise when they took the lead on 59 mins. From a throw-in on the left, Joe Colley's interception went straight to McFadyen who steered the ball away from a stranded Wells to fire into the empty net. The third goal arrived on 67 mins when Lewis Dennison's cross from the right outfoxed the Town defence; Modest's touch enough to find the net via the inside of the post and the despairing dive of Wells.

Town did better afterwards, but in the end had given themselves too much to do. There was a chance for Morton on 73 mins when picked out by Niah Payne’s delivery, but his header was over the bar. In injury time substitute Curtly Martin-Wyatt was unlucky not to make things uncomfortable for The Seasiders when getting on the end of Ferguson’s delivery; his header somehow cleared off the line by a defender. Later still, Clarke-Adams won a free-kick in a good position 20 yards from goal, however his curling effort was just over the bar.

A deserved win for The Seasiders, with Town once more left to wonder what might have been. We now look to Tuesday’s visit of Staveley to arrest the current poor run of form (kick-off 7:45pm).
