The Miners' search for a first league win since September continues as a depleted eleven lost out to a good Barton side.

The hosts enjoyed most of the possession first half, playing a good passing game. Town looked to counter-attack but lacked the pace and invention to open up the home defence. Ex-Garforth midfielder Matthew Savage was the first to go close for Barton on 7 mins when Toby Wells turned around the post his low shot. On 12 mins Daniel Omosebi put a 20 yard strike over the bar after a strong run through the middle of the park. A couple of minutes later the young full-back's free kick picked out holding-midfielder for the day Lee Turner in the box who's header was held on the line by Swans keeper Tom Collins.

On 21 mins the hosts took the lead when Savage's corner was played out to Eddie Rogerson on the edge of the box who scored with a good finish into the bottom corner. And it was 2-0 five minutes later from another corner; ex-Town defender Matt Plummer finding the net against his old club with a powerful strike that Wells got a hand to but couldn't keep out. There was a good chance for Barton's Will Waudby to make it three when Town conceded a free-kick 20 yards from goal, but his low strike was easily dealt with by Wells. Five minutes before the break Luke Aldrich was given space from a similar range, but dragged his shot wide.

The second half was a little better for Rob Hunter's side, with more urgency in getting the ball into the box. Mitch Hamilton saw a low strike turned wide by Collins after some hesitation in the Swans defence, before delivering the resulting corner to Curtly Martin-Wyatt who's header went just past the far post.

Chances followed down the other end to seal the points for Barton, Savage shot weakly at Wells when played in by Waudby, before our keeper denied a Rogerson header from a left-wing cross. Tom Bennett then put a glancing header wide from another Waudby delivery. A worrying trend for The Miners at the minute is the number of penalties conceded, and there was a fifth in as many games on 67 mins when Helmo Silva upended substitute Danny Chambers in the box. Savage stepped up, but Wells guessed the correct way to bail out his teammates once again, the resulting loose ball eventually cleared.

Town had at least put in a hard-working display to keeping the score to two, and arguably finished the game the stronger side. On 74 mins substitute Devonte Morton headed onto the crossbar from Billy Lumsden's free-kick, although the striker was penalised for a push on a defender. Some good play six mins from time saw fellow substitute Aodhan Brownlee shoot over the bar from a narrow angle. There was one more save for Wells to make down the other end though, denying Chambers at close range.

A defeat which sees us drop a place in the table to 16th and only three points off the bottom three. All the more important then, is victory in our next game in a week's time against bottom side Goole AFC (kick-off 3pm).
