Goals from Lee Turner, Mark Simpson (2) and Joe Colley earned The Miners a first league win in nine at basement side Goole.

Despite the final score, it was The Vikings who started the better side, and for the first thirty minutes it was hard to see where a Garforth win would come from. The hosts had the lead as early as five minutes, when Dan Barrett outpaced the Town backline and made himself the latest "old boy" to score against us, finishing low past captain Toby Wells.

Devonte Morton provided our first chance of the game on 15 mins, his turn and shot on the edge of the box going wide. It was the hosts who looked more likely to add a second however; Barrett saw a strike saved by Wells after beating Billy Lumsden down the right, before Terry Barwick went close with a 20-yard effort just off-target.

At 1-0 though Town were still in the game, and two quickfire goals just before half time completely turned things around. Lumsden's thirty-ninth minute free kick picked out Lee Turner at the far post who slid in to beat Goole keeper Joe Wilton at his near post. Two minutes later a Miners counter-attack ended in us taking the lead - Morton doing well on the right to find Mark Simpson in the box who stroked the ball home.

There was still work to do for Wells down the other end in injury time when he denied Jordan Emery's drive.

Three minutes into the second half Rob Hunter's side were awarded a penalty when Turner was fouled just inside the box after getting on the end of Mitch Hamilton's free kick. Simpson stepped up and made it 3-1, sending Wilton the wrong way for his second of the game.

Morton came close to making it four moments later after making a determined run down the right, but shot just wide. Then down the other end, Barrett found himself free on the right to force a near post save from Wells.

The confidence that seemed to have deserted the Town players in recent weeks had flowed back, and from then on it was a matter of how many we'd score. Michael Thompson went close on 55 mins with a 20-yard half-volley palmed away from goal by Wilton. There was a further blow for The Vikings from the resulting corner; an off-the-ball incident between Simpson and Josh Schofield ending in referee Martin Chester showing a yellow card to the former and a red to the latter.

A good chance for the hosts followed on the hour mark when captain Steven Jeff put a low shot just wide when supplied in the box by former-Town striker Chris Ovington. Seven minutes later Simpson was inches away from a hat-trick; hitting the foot of the post when picked out by a Turner cross. He came close again on 71 mins after good work by Morton and Hamilton, racing clear of the defence and trying to round Wilton, but the keeper got down to claw the ball away. It was four though on 73 mins courtesy of Joe Colley who made a jinking run in from the left and smashed the ball into the net from close range.

On 79 mins the hosts were awarded a free-kick in a dangerous position when Barrett was adjudged to have been brought down. Wells responded brilliantly however to turn onto the post Jeff's curling strike.

There were chances in the final minutes for Town to make it five. A Morton shot from the edge of the box took a deflection to loop over Wilton and go just wide, before Turner was unlucky not to score his second when getting on the end of a clearance to fire against the crossbar.

A much-needed win for Rob Hunter's side which moves them back up to thirteenth. After the latest run of away games, there's two at home up next to get the season back on the road, starting with the visit of Hemsworth next Saturday (kick-off 3pm).
