Manager Paul Marshall was able to name an unchanged first eleven from that in Tuesday's win at Silsden. Centre-forward Alex Burton returned to the squad after sitting that one out, taking his place on the bench.
Both sides enjoyed good spells of pressure in what was an entertaining contest between two well-drilled sides. Town were slow to get into things, although Jed Zanos provided our first chance on 13 mins when putting a low shot wide after a poor kick by Borough goalkeeper Liam Higton. The visitors hadn't yet converted any of their early pressure into clear cut chances, but didn't need to as they opened the scoring two minutes later. Daniel Trott beat the offside trap and found captain Jack Debnam who beat a stranded Toby Wells to place into the empty net. Trott almost grabbed his side a second shortly after when he got clear of the Town defence, but his strike went just beyond the far post.
After a first goal conceded in four matches, The Miners set about finding an equalizer. James Burgess saw a powerful strike saved, then Sam Leach shot just over the bar after Hass Gorji's effort was blocked. On 32 mins we were level. Zanos' free kick delivered into the box was headed out by a defender to Burgess who rifled the ball into the top corner. Captain Dan Coupland put a 20-yard effort just wide after a flowing move, then in injury time Gorji's far post header was denied by an excellent save from Higton.
Once again the visitors started a half the better side. An Owen Davey shot flashed wide of the far post, but Town found themselves behind once more on 50 mins when the dangerous Trott crossed into Adam Drury who slotted into the bottom corner. Trott's powerful strike hit the side netting as his side looked to put the game beyond Town's reach, before Wells claimed a Jack Bradbury shot after some good play down the right.
The Miners were boosted by the introduction of Alex Burton on the hour mark, and he almost set up Zanos soon after; his header going just off-target. The Aussie was in on the chances again when he shot just over the bar after Burgess held the ball in the box. With five minutes to go, Town levelled proceedings once again to claim a point. Burgess received Karl Fitzgerald's delivery into the box and played the ball back to Coupland who smashed high into the net. A third goal in four matches now for the midfielder.
A deserved point for The Miners who remain in second, albeit with 3rd-place Eccleshill now level on points. We remain in LS25 for our first home game of the season under the lights this Tuesday, when Goole AFC are the visitors (kick-off 7:45pm).
