This year begins in the same way as 2017 ended; with a juicy local derby. Tomorrow we entertain our neighbours Albion Sports who, after a number of top ten finishes, currently find themselves in an unfamiliar position of 15th in the table. Kulwinder Sandhu’s team suffered a run of eleven games without victory a few weeks ago, but ended this just before Christmas with a 6-1 win at basement side Clipstone.
Rob Hunter’s team meanwhile will look to avenge the 3-0 loss at Throstle Nest in our first league game of the season back in August. Whilst our tremendous win over Pontefract Collieries in our last game was our first in six matches overall, we’re unbeaten in three here on Cedar Ridge so let’s hope we can keep the run going.
The last meeting here on 17th September 2016 ended in a seven goal thriller; Town losing out 4-3 despite goals from McMurrough, Dhesi and Simpson.
There will be late fitness tests on defenders Sam Lingard, Josh Dacre, Ryan Donoghue and Luke Kitson due to illness. Centre-forward Lee Turner remains on the sidelines due to injury, although was back in training this week. We hope to receive a boost however in the form of new signing Matthew Savage, more on this one to follow.
Hope to see you there, up the Miners!
