A night of many positives for the Garforth Town youngsters. Difficult to prioritize them to be honest but here goes:
Positive Number 1:
The youngsters scored as good a team goal as you are probably ever going to see for just £3 admission to go into a 3-0 lead. Eight Garforth Town players were involved in the build up and finish without a Goole player touching the ball. Goalkeeper Archer passed it to Devlin who passed it to Coulthard who played a round the corner pass to Reynolds who switched the direction of play inwards to Colley who switched the direction of play to the other side of the pitch to Fletcher who drove forward before playing a pass to Bradley who played a super ball to the near post for Wealthall to volley home. A goal of real beauty.
Positive Number 2:
In the region of 6 senior players were rested for this game, if indeed one can term an 18/19 year old as a senior player, and yet Garforth still came up with the 3 points.
Positive Number 3:
The man of the match performance from young Joe Colley. Difficult to believe that he just turned 16 a few days ago on the evidence of this mature performance.
Positive Number 4:
The squad on duty contained 11 (out of the 15) players aged 16 or 17 - it augers well for the future.
Positive Number 5:
The form of 4 of the mainstays of the side - Lee Coulthard, Mat Devlin, Raul Fletcher and Joe Etherington - all had been out of the game for between 1 and 2 years before the start of the season - on this evidence they are all starting to play their way towards their best form.
Positive Number 6:
The gaining of 3 points from an outfit whose first team play in a higher division than Garforth (Goole AFC play in the Evo Stik Division 1). The Garforth u21 coaching team had been quietly predicting a 'scalp' for a while - whisper this quietly but they also have a Conference or Conference North outfit 'scalp' on their agenda for the second part of the season.
Positive Number 7:
The coaching staff have more 'Joe Colleys' up their sleeve later in the season. They are just awaiting permission for them to play from the baby sitters.
Postive Number 8:
Tommy Reynolds and Gabriel Bradley put in their best performances for the club after being given a rare starting 11 birth.
Positive Number 9:
The team mostly controlled this game from start to finish monopolizing 60% + possession of the ball and only conceded a late consolation goal to the visitors courtesy of a fine 'edge of the box, top corner strike' from the Goole player.
Positive Number 10:
This result means that the youngsters are on a 'nice, little roll' with 7 points taken from the last 5 games.
All in all another good day at the office - bring on the New Year!
