The Miners let another lead slip as the visitors came from behind to progress in the Vase.

Fullback Alex Zachariou returned to the starting eleven, allowing Rinor Ejupi to be pushed forward. Centre-back Joe Smith, who returned to the club a couple of weeks ago after making 13 appearances in 2021-22 season, replaced an unavailable Jamie Barkway. New signing Alex Knox was given a place on the bench.

The visitors had a good chance for an early lead only 2 minutes in when Lucas Lowery put through Guy Bates who could only shoot wide of the far post. A couple of decent openings followed for Garforth; Matt Antcliff shot just over the bar when set up by captain Dan Coupland and then some good buildup play involving Tabish Hussain, Sam Barker and Antcliff saw the latter bring a good save from West Allotment keeper Daniel Gladstone. Toby Wells had to be alert down the other end however on 23 mins to keep out Callum Larmouth after the ball was given away on the edge of our box.

From the counter attack The Miners took the lead. Hussain made a run along the right and twisted and turned in the box before finishing well into the far corner of the net.

West's Cyril Giroud was proving a handful for the Town defence, and his turn and shot on 30 mins was just over the bar as his side sought a quick equaliser. As the sides traded chances, Barker was denied by Gladstone from Hussain's free-kick, then Giroud's low shot was kept out by Wells when set up by Luke Parkinson. Midfielder Dexter Ball was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet once again when his 25-yard effort was claimed at the second attempt by Gladstone.

Town's slender lead wasn't to last until the break as the visitors turned the screw in the final few minutes of the half. Jacob Forster headed a Giroud corner just over the bar, then Wells stopped with his feet Giroud's shot after a dangerous move through the middle, although was in any case ruled offside. The equaliser came in injury time when Mikel Thompson found the bottom corner of the net after Town couldn't clear their lines.

Garforth huffed and puffed in the second half as they sought to retake the lead. Wells was forced to punch away Lowery's strike on 54 mins after a suspected handball by Giroud went unpunished. Hussain shot straight at Gladstone after a foray along the right wing, then Barker was denied at the near post by Gladstone when teed up by Antcliff. Jason Davis made his presence felt after entering the field just after the hour mark and shot just over the crossbar after a free-kick was half-cleared. West came back with Parkinson inches away from giving his side the lead on 70 mins with a header from Giroud's corner which went just over. Teammate Forster did the honours instead in similar fashion a minute later, heading home another Giroud corner to complete the turnaround.

West were temporarily reduced to ten men after a player was sin-binned for telling the referee what a jolly nice chap he was, but Town couldn't take advantage. Davis was unlucky not to provide our equaliser twice in the space of a couple of minutes, first when his shot was cleared off the line after the ball was worked in from the right and then when a cracking strike from 25-yards was tipped over the bar. The visitors suffered another set-back five minutes from the end when sub Scott McCarthy went down injured and had to be helped off the field.

Harry Viggars was then pushed forward as we sought to force the tie to penalties, but sadly with the same outcome as at Knaresborough on Tuesday when we were hit on the counter. Giroud's shot hit the post, and with Town unable to clear the danger, sub George Brady found the net to book our visitors' place in the next round and seal a disappointing couple of seasons for The Miners in FA competitions.

With no midweek game, manager Paul Marshall has time to get his players back on training pitch as we seek to end a six-game run without a win against Rossington at home in the league next Saturday (kick-off 3pm).
